Southeastern Crush 10U celebrates Cal Ripken World Series championship

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The Southeastern Crush 10-and-under baseball team returned home to a celebration after winning the Cal Ripken 10U World Series, the third title in the program's history.

The Crush rallied from a 4-2 deficit to win the championship game 5-4 on a walk-off single from Isaiah Carrier. The team had not lost a game in two and a half months.

Manager Leo New said the team's preparation for the championship run began about a year before the title game.

“We're out here, we're practicing, we're getting up at 4, 5 a.m., going to E-town, playing in these big tournaments, Triple-A tournaments, perfect game tournaments,†New said.

New credited the team's parents for their support throughout the season.

“It takes an army, right? Between getting here for practices and games. So the journey is not just during the weekends; it's during the week,†New said.

Southeastern Crush 10U celebrates Cal Ripken World Series championship

Outfielder Richard McCoin said he will remember the season for years to come.

“It feels amazing winning with them. We made a lot of memories with each other, and I'm going to remember this for the rest of my life,†McCoin said.

Outfielder Hudson Hamons said he is adding a second World Series trophy to his family's collection. His brother previously won the 12U series.

“I'm just happy to be out here and follow in my brother's footsteps. I mean, to have two kids that won the World Series, I mean, it's just amazing,†Hamons said.

The team said it is already looking ahead to next season.
